Can I Benefit From Being More Active?

Being physically active on a regular basis can have many health benefits such as achieving better

  • Health and improved fitness
  • Posture and balance
  • Self-esteem and reduced stress
  • Weight control and feeling more energetic

As well, your muscles and bones will be stronger which will go a long way in assisting you to live independently later in life.

Getting active will also decrease the risk of developing:

  • Heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure
  • Obesity
  • Adult onset Diabetes
  • Osteoporosis
  • Depression
  • Colon cancer

So, why wait? Start today...

Spread physical activity throughout your daily routine to work up to a goal of 60 minutes/day. As you progress to more intense exercise you can cut back to 30 minutes 4 times per week.

Get started by:

  • Walking and gradually increase to 30 minutes of walking per day
  • Get off the bus early, use the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Join up for a group/class with a friend
  • Play actively with your kids
  • Jogging, cycling, swimming, skipping or dancing for 20 minutes or more

Being physically active is no longer a once a year resolution.  Physical activity can be built into each and every day. Make a plan and be prepared to feel GREAT!
